Date and time: March 4, 2020 , 5:45pm

Organised by: by Lord Mayor and Sheriff of Norwich in conjunction with the UEA Law Society

Venue: Norwich City Council

Cost: £16.76

Join us to raise money and awareness for Citizens Advice and Partners, the charities providing legal advice to the Norfolk community.

The Lord Mayor’s Civic Charity for 2019/20 is Citizens Advice and Partners and it works within the local Norfolk community to provide free legal advice. This event will give businesses, professionals and students a chance to further understand the issues facing those who seek access to justice and how the charities help address these challenges.

All proceeds from tickets sales and donations will directly benefit the advice charities, which comprise:

• Age UK (Norwich)

• Citizens Advice

• Equal Lives

• Mancroft Advice Project (MAP)

• Norfolk Community Law Service (NCLS)

• Shelter

The evening will offer many opportunities to engage with the cause. A UEA Law Student Competition mooting final judged by the Recorder of Norwich, Judge Stephen Holt, and a panel of legal experts can be observed in the Council Chamber. A keynote speech will be given by The Right Honourable Lord Justice Bean (until recently Chair of the Law Commission and since September 2018 an Appeal Court judge) on the theme of access to justice. Representatives from Citizens Advice and Partners will be present to discuss their charities and the remarkable work they do.

Guests are invited to arrive from 17:45 and drinks and canapés will be available throughout the event. Guests can choose to view the Student Moot Final which will start at 18:00. The keynote speech will be at 19:00 followed by further opportunities to network with local lawyers, students, charity supporters and members of the Civic Association.

There will be a live stream video link into the Mancroft Room, where seating will be provided. This will come into use if numbers exceed the capacity of the Council Chamber.

This event will be filmed and photographed and the images may be used by Norwich City Council and University of East Anglia for publicity purposes (including social media) and retained for future use.
