The FinTech mission to Beijing, Wuhan and Nanjing from 7-14 September 2024, led by John McLean OBE (Chair of CUKBDC, and Chair, the Institute of Directors, the City of London), was organised by the CUKBDC (China UK Business Development Centre). The main objective of the mission was to help UK FinTech businesses to explore exciting business opportunities in the emerging regional markets in China.
Under the support and guidance from Steve Davidson (Chair of FIG), Yifan Chen from Norwich Business School joined this FinTech Mission as the Representative of FIG and the Finance Professional Links Coordinator of UEA.
Yifan successfully put FIG, UEA, Norwich and Norfolk on the map as an important centre for Financial and Related Professional Services in the UK by communicating with a wide range of stakeholders in China through a series of high-profile events. For example, the VIP meetings with the Mayor of Wuhan Municipal Government and with the Party Secretary of Nanjing Municipal Government; the roundtable meeting with China Chamber of International Commerce/China Council for the Promotion of International Trade; China (Wuhan) – UK Fintech Business Cooperation Dialogue Forum; Meeting with Jiangsu Province Department of Commerce; and Nanjing Financial City Council Establishment Conference.
The mission has also received enormous support from British Government through the engagement from Daniel Cowen MBE (Deputy Director, Financial and Professional Services, British Embassy Beijing), Arvind Norris (Trade and Investment Consul, British Consulate General Wuhan) and Matthew Burney CMG (Consul-General, British Consulate General Shanghai).
